2019 Dubai Lynx Festival of Creativity underway with 2,406 entries received

11 March 2019–Dubai Lynx welcomed attendees to the 13th edition of the Festival with an Opening Party on Sunday evening that revealed the first shortlists from this year’s entries. A total of 2,406 entries were received across 18 Lynx Award categories from 20 countries, an increase year-on-year of 43%.

Philip Thomas, Chairman of Cannes Lions and Dubai Lynx commented, “The MENA region is a fascinating hub of creativity. We’ve seen exciting growth across a number of the categories revealing interesting insights into the creative communications industry in the region. This year’s Festival focuses on creative transformation and the entries reflect this theme, with more brands entering work directly and a shift away from traditional media toward more digital and experience led creative. I’d like to also personally thank the many agencies across the region who have supported Lynx by entering their work – without the work, there is no Lynx.”

2019 has seen a refresh within the Lynx Awards categories to better reflect the creative work emerging within the MENA region. These changes included; Promo & Activation changing to Brand Experience & Activation Lynx, with updated categories and sections, Interactive becoming Digital Lynx with some refreshed categories, Branded Content & Entertainment being renamed to the Entertainment Lynx with new sports-focused categories and the introduction of Glass: The Award for Change to celebrate culture-shifting creativity.

The changes to the Awards resulted in greater participation across categories including Brand Experience & Activation with 223 entries, up 89% on last year, PR with 139 entries a 42% increase from last year and Healthcare up 64% from last year with 157 entries. Thea Skelton, Festival Director of Dubai Lynx added, “In its launch year, we’ve seen an incredible uptake of Glass: The Award for Change, with 27 entries. This mirrors the work we’ve been doing throughout the Festival to highlight and embrace equality and diversity with a focused content stream and the return of See It Be It, our development programme for future female leaders. It also reveals that the industry here is determined to use creativity as a driving force for good and we’re delighted to be able to support and develop this further. ”

In 2019 the Festival will be a highly-focused two day event, with over 90 speakers from across the region and around the world and includes more opportunities for networking and fostering business connections. New initiatives include Meet the Speaker sessions where attendees can connect with the masters of creativity after their presentation on stage and Meet Ups, where attendees can connect with a community of like-minded Festival-goers to discuss and expand knowledge and networks.

The shortlists announced on Sunday include; Brand Experience & Activation, Design, Direct, Entertainment, Film, Film Craft, Digital, Media, Mobile, Outdoor, PR, Print & Outdoor Craft, Print & Publishing and Radio & Audio categories and can be found here.

The Dubai Lynx Juries continue to deliberate throughout the Festival and on the remaining shortlists in the Creative Effectiveness, Glass, Healthcare and Integrated categories will be revealed on Wednesday 13 March with all of the winners announced onstage at the Dubai Lynx Awards Ceremony on Wednesday March 13.
