Biography

Rafael is a Brazilian-born, international creative with over 20 years of experience across multiple disciplines. He's worked his way across the globe from Brazil to the Middle East to the U.S., making stops at Ogilvy & Mather in Brazil, Ogilvy & Mather and Leo Burnett in Dubai, Pereira & O’Dell in San Francisco, 180 Los Angeles, TBD (a San Francisco-based independent agency he founded in 2017) and BBH US. In November 2022 he took on the role of Chief Creative Office for US and Hispanic LATAM at Dentsu Creative.

He's behind award-winning projects such as Boost Mobile’s “Boost Your Voice”(2x Grand Prix and Titanium winner at Cannes Lions and AdAge’s Creativity Awards Campaign of the Year in 2017); Eurofarma’s Scrolling Therapy (Pharma Grand Prix at Cannes Lions 2023); Google's Black Owned Friday (Campaign US Most Purposeful Campaign of the Year - 2021) and UNICEF’s “UNfairy Tales” (Grand Prix for Good at Cannes Lions 2016). Rafael has won over 400 international awards at Cannes Lions, D&AD, One Show, Clios, London International Awards (LIA) and the Effies. He also served in the jury in all those festivals.

An idea-led creative by nature, Rafael helped to turn 180LA into the most awarded shop in all of TBWA’s Network Worldwide (99 offices) for two years in a row (2016/2017), and AdAge A-List “Stand Out Agency of the Year” in 2017. He was recognised as one of Ad Age’s "40 Under 40" in 2017, Campaign US' "40 Over 40" in 2021, and ranked #13 in Business Insider’s "30 Most Creative People in Advertising" in 2016. In 2021 and 2022, BBH NY was ranked the most awarded and effective office within the BBH Global Network and in 2022 it was recognised as one of AdAge A-list “Stand Out Agency of the Year” after a ten-year hiatus.
